This Unix Dedicated Server Management service includes:

* Server management
* Capacity and performance monitoring
* User account management
* Security implementation and assurance

h3. Windows

The Microsoft Windows Dedicated Server Management service provides for the use of fully managed virtual servers (Note 1) for customer processing. A managed server includes one "Server Unit", defined as one physical or virtual CPU, 2 GB RAM, and 25 GB disk storage and the following

* Host Protection / High availability failover with virtual machines
* Hosting in the State’s Premier Tier III certified Data Center
* Basic network connectivity
* Server operating system license (Standard version)
* Overall health and availability monitoring
* Patch management
* Antivirus
* Basic FTP
* Basic web (IIS only)
* SQL Express
* ISA proxy use (if required)

The Managed Windows Server Offering requires a Storage and Backup/Recovery SLA at an additional charge. Clients do not have administrative access to the server.

Managed Windows Servers may optionally host Managed Applications. Managed Applications are those that the SSRC can confidently and professionally support on an enterprise level, based on staffing and expertise. Examples of currently offered Managed Applications include:
* SQL Server 2005 (Single Node or Clustered)
* Outlook Web Access (OWA)
* Remote Use Published Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, TN3270 and other client driven applications)
* WINS/DNS/DHCP/AD Management
* Other applications as staff levels and expertise permit; please confirm availability

Managed Windows Servers may optionally host Unmanaged Applications. Unmanaged Applications are applications that the SSRC is not yet able to support due to staffing or expertise needs, yet can be supported and administered by the Customer without administrative access to the server. While the overall health and availability of the server is guaranteed, the health and availability of the Unmanaged Application is not.

Customers may leverage any SSRC negotiated license agreements (Service Level Provider Agreements, Enterprise Agreements, Partner Programs, etc.) on a cost-recovery basis. Examples include:
* SharePoint Server
* Live Communications Server
* Project Server
* Oracle on Windows
* Custom Written Applications
* Other Commercially Available Off-The-Shelf Software

All applications are priced in the following manner (Base charge plus):
* Initial Service Setup fee (One hour minimum at the Professional Services rate)
* License fee (pass-through) (See Note 2).
* Ongoing Support and Administration (based on actual time spent by staff and billed monthly at the Professional Services rate)
* Additional storage and backup (based on utilization)

Note 1. Additional charges may apply for physical servers, due to added maintenance costs, power consumption, cooling requirements and operational necessities.

Note 2. Applications offered under the SSRC’s Microsoft SPLA agreement are billed monthly based on utilization; charges for non-SPLA software will vary based on the nature of the product license, its structure, cost and utilization.

Note 3. Unmanaged Windows Server will be offered at a discounted rate during FY09/10 while usage levels are determined. Once utilization can be reasonably forecasted, the Unmanaged Windows Server offering may be rolled out as a formal service. Unmanaged Windows servers will include one "Server Unit" and basic network connectivity, but will offer no performance guarantees, antivirus, or server OS. Customers will have the benefit of the SSRC’s enterprise VMware farm, as well as hosting in the State’s Tier III Data Center. Customers will have administrative access to the server. Service monitoring and/or patch management may be offered as options. Please contact the Windows Platform Group for options and pricing.
